Best Places for Filming and Photo Shoots in Malta
From ancient fortresses to turquoise lagoons, the Maltese Islands offer many looks within a short drive. Malta Film Studios in Kalkara also has large water tanks for sea scenes. Tell us your concept and we will suggest the right locations.

Grand Harbour & Fort Ricasoli
Fort Ricasoli, at the entrance to the Grand Harbour, was used for Gladiator, Gladiator II, Troy and Assassin’s Creed. The harbour bastions and the Three Cities make powerful backdrops.

Mdina, the Silent City
Mdina’s gate and squares appeared as King’s Landing in the first season of Game of Thrones. Its quiet golden streets are ideal for early-morning shoots.

Popeye Village, Mellieħa
The wooden village built for the film Popeye (1980) still stands at Anchor Bay. A colourful, ready-made set for photo and video shoots.

Valletta Streets
Baroque streets, steep steps and traditional balconies. Valletta has doubled for other European cities on screen, including in Napoleon (2023).

Blue Lagoon, Comino
Crystal-clear turquoise water and white sand between Comino and Cominotto. Best photographed early in the morning before the crowds arrive.

Dwejra, Gozo
Dramatic cliffs, Fungus Rock and the Inland Sea on Gozo’s west coast. A favourite for landscape, fashion and drone photography.
